Cabbage

At the end of last school year, all the third graders were given a cabbage start to grow over the summer. The first day of fourth grade they had to take in a picture of them with their cabbage and report how much it weighed. I guess the best cabbage in the state was destined to win a thousand dollars toward college or something. Only four kids in Elyse's class were able to get theirs to grow. Here's Elyse with her 3lb, 9 oz cabbage. She wasn't selected to represent our school, but she did win a stop watch. And we ate that delicious cabbage for dinner last week with our Sukiyaki. I'm surprised the poor thing made it. I had her stick it in the back corner where it was shadowed by a pine tree and all the tomatoes.

Sleep over in Hammocks

Before school started Elyse made these hammocks out of bed sheets in the boy's room. They slept in them for a couple nights, much to my surprise. Paul had to curl up into a tiny ball to fit in his, but they actually slept and nobody fell out.

Floating Baby

Jaroms' figured out where the snack cupboard is And he loves being thrown in the air. This pic makes him look like he's floating and Matt's trying to get him down. Makes me think of Mary Poppins.

First Day of School

Sigh...summer is over and we're back to alarms and schedules. Boo Hoo. And the bus comes twenty minutes earlier this year. Yuck. They didn't have the bus routes completely figured out either. My kids were half an hour late to school and an hour late getting home--I'm hoping the wrinkles get all smoothed out by next week. Because I would actually like to SEE my children sometime during the day. This was the first year I didn't go to school with them the first day. I woke up this morning, Paul and Elyse were dressed and ready, Elyse made her lunch, we ate a quick breakfast, had family prayer, and off they went to the bus stop like old pros. I then went upstairs and took a snooze/watched cartoons for an hour. Tomorrow: first day of preschool for Luke.
